Here's a very recent reference related to this; "The Machine to Be
Another'", originally developed by our student Philippe Bertrand as a Final
Project in our University Master in Digital Arts at Universitat Pompeu
Fabra, Barcelona.
"The Machine to Be Another' is an embodiment system designed to address the
relation between identity and empathy. The project merges performances with
protocols of neuroscience experiments, in order to offer users an immersive
experience of seeing themselves in the body of another person. The paper
reports the methods and partial results of the interdisciplinary
qualitative investigation that are leading us to create a low budget
approach to stimulate empathy through embodied interaction between
individuals."
"The Machine to Be Another'" was presented as a Work in Progress at the 8th
International Conference on Tangible, Embedded and Embodied Interaction
(Munich, February 2014) and their Gender Swap experiment has recently got a
lot of attention (as you can see on the links below):
