to open the communication between the fields and include the public at
large as well. I have been seeking true collaboration that represents
transdisciplinary rigor in my own work. The best case for STEAM is not just
the illustration of scientific theory/observation; it is development of a
communication that supports rigor and develops new language to push inquiry
forward. If these practices can also lead to an intuitive and engaged
citizenry, well BULLY! Congrats on your involvement at the NYC conference,
Melissa.
Recently there have been so many events and convenings on al discussion of
post-disciplinary ethos . The topic: "how to get there" is chiefly centered
around the critical issues of the environment and ecology. Sara Gevurtz and
I have been building relationships with Marine Bio, Bio-Remediation, and
Environmental Sciences at University of West Florida. Our work has been
fairly successful to date. We started by simply engaging in field work
together. We have opened new dialogues through the comparison of the data
each member has collected (digital imaging, salinity, bacteria counts,
etc.). My colleague from Biology referred to the comparative reflections on
the different metrics as 'ground truthing'; a term which was new to me as
of last year.
Our ground truthing has led to a larger collaborations and critical
discussions of communication and the submission of new grants to move this
project to deeper inquiry. We believe our activity is moving towards an
archive that exists as aesthetics and data simultaneously. We find this
idea profound and perhaps will shift thoughts of the disciplinary silos.
These activities also led to the development of a five week regional
program and inviting compelling practitioners from around the nation to
participate and share. We are in our 4th week of visiting/in-residence
artists/scientists, lectures, exhibitions, and a colloquium we call

keynote from Elizabeth Demaray on transdisciplinary practice and an all day
program of on the intersections, STEAM2017 Colloquium on Saturday, March 4,
2017. I do not know if any other Yasminers are in the area but all

I would like to hear about other scaffolding that has led to 'real'
