just to pick up on photo synthesis ( and now that plasmons and polaritrons have
entered our discussion ! as well as ...teilhard de chardin)
i dont know many artists who have manipulated photosynthesis, maybe
yasminers know more, but a good example is the work of Ackroyd and Harvey
who 15 years ago did a series of manipulation of light exposure of lawns to
make rather incredible natural photos !

We are exploring the capacity of grass to record complex photographic

The second topic is photosynthesis. How
fascinating that nature has learned to capture
light energy, and this by creating a molecular
web -- porphyrin -- from the typical lightweight
organic CHON elements which is nonetheless
able to retain within itself a relatively much
heavier magnesium atom. And of course
photosynthesis is an analogue for any process
in which simpler elements join forces to
accomplish a sophisticated acquisitive or
perceptual task; i.e., we are reminded of
Teilhard de Chardin's statement -- which we
non-theists can understand in our own way
-- that it is not the individual who will see
God, but rather the entire body of the
faithful.

Following on Glenn comments, i would introduce some initial ideas from
light fron the nanoscale.
Nanotechnology, control and manipulation of matter at nanoscale lenghts,
could be one clever direction to try to develope these possible
technologies. Why?, one asnwer is "because seems that nature/life do in
this way". There are lots of bioinspired technologies that comes from this
new opportunity to control mather on the nanoscale. You would remember blue
wings from blue morpho, or the sticky foots from Geckos, or the self
cleaning action from Lotus flower, ... These are all examples where
nanostrutured material was self assembled naturally to produce different
functionalities.
Plasmons. I have a very romantic teacher who define plasmons as "sea waves
from the Fermy sea".

Polaritons.
Light, as wave, can be controlled by resonantors. Resonator is a kind of
mirrors that reflect light to be "always" inside this resonator.
