I am taking over from Pau Alsina in Barcelona as your YASMIN
moderator ( Nina Czegledy takes over next week).
I will be going to Ars Electronica next weekend for the Origins
conference- hope to see some YASMINERS there.
We are all approaching the date also for ISEA in Istanbul-
there are many yasminers on the programme.
Finally let me mention that I just spend a month at the
ATEC center at the University of Texas, Dallas.

Whatch yasmin as ATEC is about to post ads for 8 new faculty positions
from sound design, to history and philosophy of technology, to
digital arts, to image science/visualisation to animation and serious games.

Much talk in Texas of "virtual humans ' ( both intelligent virtual agents, but
also how we as humans behave on line)> There is an
upcoming conference on Intelligent Virtual Agents
in Iceland Sept 15-17 September:
Which deals with:
Intelligent virtual agents (IVAs) are interactive characters that
exhibit human-like
qualities and communicate with humans or with each other using natural human
modalities such as speech and gesture. They are capable of realtime perception,
cognition and action that allows them to participate in dynamic
social environments.
Including a workshop on 'culturally motivated virtual characters'
Interesting to see that the cognitive sciences, neurosciences etc are
beginning to
inject themselves into the research areas.
