indeed led
to publications in scientific journals
another example is artist Brandon Ballangee whose long work on frogs has
led to a number of science publications

there are numerous modes of art science collaboration-
in the case of Ballengee he is a true 'hybrid' with an art
degree and now enrolled in a science and engineering PhD
as an artist he not only collaborates with scientists on art works
but also on scientific research in his own right
some modes of collaboration lead to both art and science outputs=
others favor the one over the other or focus exclusively on an output
in science or engineering (yeah- in general I hate the dichotomising
between art and science so caveat emptor)
in this discussion i we are particularly interested in art science work that
leads to scientific production and in hearing from the scientists !!
incidentally i am really interested in how to train people how to
collaborate
in art science- anyone have training procedures ?

It had occurred to me that there is a relevant contemporary artist
working today who actually made a project involving technicians,
engineers, architects, astrophysicists, arachnologists, etc
This mans name is Tomas Saraceno. The project 14Billions was the
first time a three dimensional spider web had been scanned - The
development of the ability to scan such a thing was published in two
scientific journals.
The artist with his studio and some scientists from TU Darmstadt
scanned these webs, after years of various attempts - and then rebuilt
it 16 times larger as true to form as possible - a rather audacious
and perplexing operation-
All technique aside, the work, just to have this type of data, has
been a sort of well-spring for scientists - ok a few scientists are
engaging with it, but nonetheless. A biological mathematician in
Japan is using this model information in his analyses, there is
ongoing discussion and application process to launch orb-weaver
spiders to the iss through gilles clement, some bio-materials
scientists at MIT etc -
