[Yasmin_discussions] music and the mind

yasminers

this fits into our discussion on cognitive innovation !

http://www.mainlymozart.org/series/mozart-the-mind/

Mozart and the Mind annually brings together internationally leading
figures in the sciences, medicine, and the arts to communicate
contemporary research and insights exploring the impact of music on
our brain, health, and lives. Topics include the role of music in
therapy and rehabilitation; musical training's role in improving brain
function; what brain structures underlie rhythm and music perception;
how advances in cognitive neuroscience and neurotechnology can open
new possibilities for musical expression and performance; and much
more.

The series uniquely interweaves informative and entertaining
presentations with innovative installations and live performances. In
a single evening you can stimulate your mind with scientific insights
into music's role in the brain, then follow your curiosity and
explore interactive neurotechnology installations or live center-stage
performances in the free Music & the Brain Exposition, and finally
settle back and feed your soul with world-class Spotlight Series
performance of some of the greatest chamber music ever composed.

It's what happens when Mozart meets the Mind!

Re: [Yasmin_discussions] cognitive innovation in plymouth

Some work from my PhD thesis uses augmented reality goggles to perform
what I've called audiovisual scene synthesis, a generative collage
process built using a model of human perception. Participants wear
headphones and goggles which attempt to learn both the auditory and
visual scene, presenting its "interpretation" as a generative collage
through the microphone and goggles:

Dear Roger and yasmin subscribers,

Here's a very recent reference related to this; "The Machine to Be
Another'", originally developed by our student Philippe Bertrand as a Final
Project in our University Master in Digital Arts at Universitat Pompeu
Fabra, Barcelona.

"The Machine to Be Another' is an embodiment system designed to address the
relation between identity and empathy. The project merges performances with
protocols of neuroscience experiments, in order to offer users an immersive
experience of seeing themselves in the body of another person. The paper
reports the methods and partial results of the interdisciplinary
qualitative investigation that are leading us to create a low budget
approach to stimulate empathy through embodied interaction between
individuals."

"The Machine to Be Another'" was presented as a Work in Progress at the 8th
International Conference on Tangible, Embedded and Embodied Interaction
(Munich, February 2014) and their Gender Swap experiment has recently got a
lot of attention (as you can see on the links below):
