In 1973 John Lifton first exhibited 'Green Music' at the Computer Arts Society exhibition 'Event One' in London. It was subsequently widely exhibited in the UK and USA. The interactive artwork demonstrated that plants were aware (conscious) of their environment and could quickly respond to changes:

ALSO - on the subject of 'Free Will'. My favourite description comes from Gerd Sommerhoff in his ' The Abstract Characteristics of Living Systems' (1969) where he suggests that free will is an illusion generated by a relatively simple organism (human) to a seeming infinitely complex environment (the universe) in order to preserve its sanity.
