A stunning and unperceived image of the Istanbul sunrise will be drawn by two Dutch artists Esther Polak and Ivar van Bekkum at the Cumhuriyet Art Gallery/ Maksem in Taksim Square on the early morning of 16 September.
The "Spiral Drawing Sunrise" is a contemporary example of land-art, but now reacting to city environments. During the live performance a delicate robot like solar-machine graphs the rising sun, using sand as its ink. The sand drawing will be made directly on the pavement, and will be an unexpected experience for any by-passser. The process will take a couple of hours depending on available sun light. The drawing will fade away in 1-3 days or minutes when the street cleaners feel they have to sweep it away.
A lasting art-work, in the form of a unique photo print, will be available via the website of the project soon after.
You are cordially invited to visit the performance that will start at sunrise, and continues till noon.
Location: Taksim Square near the entrance to İstiklal Caddesi and in front of The Cumhuriyet Art Gallery
