Re: [Yasmin_discussions] How to enable collaboration between science/engineering and art and design

Clarissa

Thanks for your comment arguing for the needs for "hybrids"

you say: I can say that the best
> partners in my adventure were the hybrids – sort of 'imaginary beings' with
> several possible heads, like hydras – artists-scientists,
> philosophers-technicians, scientists-philosophers, architects-artists,
> artist-philosophers-scientists-architects, and so on… we are free to mix

I have recently read Allen Repko's books , notably
his Interdisciplinary Research: Process and Theory

http://www.amazon.com/Interdisciplinary-Research-Allen-F-Repko/dp/1412959152

Where he elaborates the various modes of collaboration including the role of
what you call "hybrids"

also of interest are the recent studies by Robert Root Bernstein where
he documents
how a very large fraction of succesful scientists and engineers have
major avocations
= often in the arts= which they view not as a waste of time but
fundamental to their
practice of science or engineering;

see his text on how the arts foster scientific success

http://www.ippsr.msu.edu/ppie/Presentations/Successes.pdf

So I guess my question for you= how to we enable more people
to become succesful hybrids ?
