+ Rachel Armstrong: Architecture that repairs itself?
Rachel is involved with the development of a new architectural methodology
called Systems Architecture - the study of complexity within the discipline
of the built environment that enables the convergence of the
nano-bio-info-cogno technologies and extends from the macroscale flow of
information to the micro scale organization of building materials. She is a
Teaching Fellow at the Bartlett and member of Professor Neil Spiller's
AVATAR Research Group:
+ AVATAR is fundamentally interested in research concerning the impact of
advanced technology on architectural design, however it also contributes to
discussion on issues such as aesthetics, philosophy and cybernetics.
Technologically, AVATAR concerns itself with virtuality (exploring fully
immersed, mixed and augmented environments); Time based new media (film,
video and film theory), Nano and bio technology (micro landscapes and
architecture, ethics, sustainability and ecology) including reflexive
environments and cybernetic systems.
