[Yasmin_discussions] Fw: Re: Synaesthesia Discussion

Dear Yasmin synaesthesia discussion group,

Please let me introduce you to Liz.

......

Greetings, everyone! My name is Elizabeth Seckel. Im researching
synaesthesia at the University of California, San Diego and am looking
very forward to this month of synaesthetic cross talk between artists and
scientists.

According to Dr. Ramachandran, synaesthesia is seven times more common in
artists and poets than the general population. Why might this be?
Creative people in general seem to be very good at linking seemingly
unrelated information and creating beautiful metaphors. Just as
synaesthesia involves making links between seemingly unrelated perceptual
entities like tones and colors, metaphor involves making links between
seemingly unrelated conceptual realms. For participants with
synaesthesia, do you find yourself being very metaphorical in general or
is it limited to the specific synaesthetic associations you have?

Liz
