[Yasmin_discussions] Fwd: Artists as Inventors

---------- Forwarded message ----------
From: Chris Fremantle <chris@fremantle.org>

Hi

Roger said that this email may not have come through for everyone to see...
apologies for reposting.

Tim Ingold and Elizabeth Hallam, anthropologists at the University of
Aberdeen, Scotland, have recently published an excellent volume of essays in
which they distinguish between improvisation and innovation. They argue
that our perception of innovation comes from looking backwards. Looking
forwards we improvise.

Ingold, T and Hallam, E., 2007. *Creativity and Cultural Improvisation*.
