santralistanbul is a major new contemporary art museum in Istanbul.
Located on the campus of Bilgi University, it combines education,
research, production and exhibition facilities in the field of art and
cultural studies. Uncharted is a selection of contemporary immersive
artworks made with digital and interactive media. The exhibition aims
to reveal spectacular new forms of artistic expression and radical
changes in the relationship between the viewer and the work of art.
[The User] is a contemporary art collective comprised of architect and
installation artist Thomas McIntosh, and composer and sound artist
Emmanuel Madan. The Montréal-based duo has attained wide international
recognition for their ground-breaking projects Silophone and Symphony
for Dot Matrix Printers, which re-imagine relationships between
technological systems, culture and human experience in striking ways.
Coincidence Engine One: Universal People's Republic Time (2008) is the
first in an ongoing series of works inspired by the late Hungarian
composer György Ligeti's Poème Symphonique for 100 Metronomes (1962)
and exploring aspects of determinism and indeterminism. The work was
commissioned by PAVED Arts, an artist-run centre in Saskatoon, Canada,
with the support of the Canada Council for the Arts, le Conseil des
arts et des lettres du Québec and le Conseil des arts de Montréal.
Project curator: Timothy Dallett.
