Tonight, it reminds me of French anthropologist and
ethnographer Pierre Clastres (among one of his most famous
book is "La Société contre l'Etat",
Society Against the State) who wrote that the scarifications
and body paintings were the law of the society written on
the bodies of its members.
I suppose that it is not exactly what you have in mind ;-)
But, my point here is that the body has been a space for the
publication of the common law before the put it into thick
books that noone, except the experts, reads.
